Inside the Life of An Interior Designer: A Day in Review

May 16, 2024

As an interior designer, my days are a blend of creativity, communication, and practical problem-solving. Let me take you through a typical day in my shoes:

Morning: Consultations and Brainstorming

  • 9:00 AM: I start my day with a consultation. Meeting new clients is exciting! We discuss their vision, needs, and budget. Sometimes it’s a cozy home redesign; other times, it’s a commercial space transformation.
  • 10:30 AM: Armed with ideas, I create design boards. These visual collages include fabric swatches, paint samples, and furniture inspirations. It’s like assembling a puzzle where every piece matters.
  • 12:00 PM: Lunch break! A quick recharge with a meditation with my favorite clear quartz crystal before diving back into creativity

Afternoon: Designing with Purpose

  • 1:30 PM: I focus on functionality. How will people flow through the space? Is the kitchen layout efficient? Safety codes matter too. Design isn’t just aesthetics; it’s about making spaces work seamlessly.
  • 3:00 PM: Time to source materials. I connect with suppliers for tiles, fabrics, and furniture. Finding reliable partners is crucial—they’re the backbone of any successful project.
  • 4:30 PM: Communicating with contractors keeps things on track. Carpentry, plumbing, electrical work—they’re the unsung heroes behind the scenes.

Evening: Client Updates and Reflection

  • 6:00 PM: I update clients on progress. Routine or tricky, it’s essential. If there are hiccups, I handle them delicately.
  • 7:30 PM: Reflecting on the day, I refine designs, tweak layouts, and envision the final product.
  • 9:00 PM: Lights out! Before lights out, I write in my gratitude journal and reflect on my day
  • Tomorrow brings new challenges and creative opportunities.
